New Village Hall Extension
Village hall Extension

April 2009

Following last months report everyone will have now noticed that the scaffolding and screens around the hall extension have been removed, and our grateful thanks go to Raymond Eversden Builders for the free loan of the scaffolding and to Keith Hounsell of Surehoard Fencing for the use of the security hoardings during the period of construction of the shell of the extension.

A few weeks ago Tony Grace, Treasurer of the Frampton Footlights called by to give me a cheque for £1,500 – the proceeds of the Pantomime – as promised, and we are very grateful to our friends in that organisation for their continuing help.

I hear from Tony and Malcolm Potter – those men on the lighting control panel – that the first experimental use of the panel up on the first floor was successful and will become a permanent feature when all the equipment is “plumbed in” to the hall electrical circuits.

A few weeks ago the Parish Council considered the request from the Trustees for further funding and agreed to provide the funds required for extending the existing strip maple flooring into the new area.  The quoted cost of this work is £3,800+VAT.

Again the Trustees wish to thank the Council for its continued support.  (Everyone at the meeting was very careful not to be involved if they could possibly be accused of “having an interest”…. Isn’t life wonderful in this PC world!!).

By the time you read this ‘edition’ of Village Hall News you will probably have noticed that Reuben Waterman will have been busy with his digger again adjusting ground levels of the pedestrian access to the hall and digging out the ground ready for a retaining wall around the front corner of the building.

The beginning of April will be demolition time when (ploughing and seeding permitting) our “project manager” Robin will be masterminding demolition of walls separating the main hall from the extension.  We may need many people with wheelbarrows, so if your ‘phone rings have your excuses ready!

Once demolition of the internal walls has been completed work will go on to lay insulation, drainage, wiring and screeds before kitchen fitting begins.

Well, that’s the theory….. now to the practice…

Colin Pook. Chairman of the Trustees, Frampton Village Hall.
