Introduction

Frampton has a parish council of seven, and a parish clerk. The council meets in the village hall on the second Wednesdays of January, March, May, July, September and November.

The meetings are open to the public, generally informal, and are followed by an ‘open forum’ when members of the public can, and usually do, bring matters of interest to the attention of the council. The WDDC councillor for Frampton generally attends, and the county councillor and the local police officer sometimes attend.

Agenda for the meetings are posted on the parish notice boards at least three days before the meetings.

The responsibilities of the council are varied and include:

  • Looking after the parish council properties, eg grass cutting, insurance, etc. The properties are Tibbs Hollow, the children’s play area, the allotments and the cemetery. There is a play area subcommittee which raises funds and looks after the play area equipment
  • Liaising with the county council on highway safety and repair
  • Liaising with the county council on public transport matters affecting the parish
  • Liaising with the county council on the state of footpaths and other rights of way.
  • Maintaining the church clock
  • Maintaining the www.framptondorset.org website for the benefit of village organisations such as the Frampton Village News and the Footlights
  • Implementing the parish plan.
  • The parish council is consulted on all planning applications within the parish, and on major planning applications in neighbouring parishes. The parish council is also consulted on tree orders within the conservation area
  • Making grants to village organisations from council funds and from the ‘waste paper fund’. The paper fund comes from the recycling of paper and cardboard collected within the village, and grants from the fund are recommended by the Paper Fund Committee.
  • Liaising with the police on matters of concern within the parish
  • Distributing warnings about bird flu and floods etc.

The council income comes mainly from the council tax and the current Frampton ‘precept’ is £4500 pa. The council receives a small income from allotment rents and burial fees, etc.

The parish councillors and clerk are listed in the Frampton Village News and on the parish website, as are minutes of meetings, etc.
